Day five of our Across Australia famil with Sydney Melbourne Touring runs from first light to a late dinner, weaving wildlife encounters between property inspections. The route heads north from Murramarang National Park to Cupitt's Estate, a midday cruise on Jervis Bay and two glamping camps near Huskisson. The day closes inland at Berry, where Rubus Residences by Linnaeus Collection sends a private chef to cook dinner in the house.

Day 4 of our Across Australia famil with Sydney Melbourne Touring is the first spent entirely on the New South Wales South Coast, working north from Eden. After breakfast in town and an inspection at Currajong Retreat, the morning goes to kayaking and shucking oysters on the Pambula River with Navigate Expeditions. The group then stops in the heritage village of Central Tilba before reaching South Durras by evening, where the resort sits inside Murramarang National Park.

Day three of our Across Australia famil with Sydney Melbourne Touring is the day we leave Victoria for New South Wales. It opens at the Paynesville ferry with an early walk among the koalas of Raymond Island, then takes in Metung Hot Springs and a run of cabin and cottage inspections around Lakes Entrance. After a casual lunch at Orbost and the drive through Croajingolong National Park, the group reaches Eden, the first town over the border, by evening.

Day two of our Across Australia famil with "Sydney Melbourne Touring" runs from the cabins of Tidal River in the heart of Wilsons Promontory to Paynesville. We start before sunrise with a walk up to Pillar Point, then head offshore with Wanderer Adventures along the Wilsons Prom's southern coast. The afternoon is a 265-kilometre drive north-east through Gippsland, with an inspection at Sale before dinner near Paynesville's marina at Pier 70.

From Garden to Goldfield, with Sydney Melbourne Touring On the first full day of the six-day famil organised for Across Australia by Sydney Melbourne Touring, the group drives east out of Melbourne, from a garden retreat in the Strzelecki hills to Walhalla, a near-vanished gold town, before turning south for a night in the bush at Wilsons Promontory.

Tasting Melbourne After Dark, with Foodie Trails

Melbourne is often called Australia’s flavour capital, and it rewards those who slow down. Our Across Australia team put that to the test on 20 June, on the famil’s opening evening, joining a private Foodie Trails walk led by guide Christine. Over four and a half hours, the city’s history and four or five tastings unfold side by side. It is a chance to weigh a product that sells Melbourne through its table as much as its heritage.
